Luggage... The central preoccupation of my life

We began the day in trogir, where we planned out our day over cappuccinos as always, deciding to go to the second biggest city in Croatia, split, and then to the island of Hvar, famous for its lavender fields and awesome coves. The drive from trogir to split is only about half an hour down the coast so we arrived in split in the morning, where we saw Diocletian's palace (one of the best preserved ancient palaces in the world! It was really cool. Massive walled, cavernous, ornate pillars, stone palace right on the water) and went to a market where I bought my very own luggage (a mid-sized silver hard suitcase on rolly wheels to transport all of the wine and olive oil we bought in istria(....but after trying to pack it we should have opted for the extra large size. It has got to weigh 80lbs. We need a new plan I think. Maybe ship half the wine back ..) the suitcase was not cheap, but we bargained the guy way down and he acted like we were basically stealing it from him. In the afternoon we travelled to hvar via the ferry in drvenik. We drove right onto the ferry boat.
Last night we car camped on a very scenic dirt/gravel road in the middle of nowhere hvar. Super uncomfortable night made slightly better by our card games and breaking out the amazing raspberry wine I purchased.
This morning on hvar is lovely. the island has gorgeous wooded coves of bright turquoise water and slopes up in the center of the island to form high hills covered with fields of lavender, olive trees and more vineyards. Today we're off to Bosnia and Herzegovina after a scenic drive back to the ferry!

  1. oh, jeez, now I have to spank you twice.
I hope the wine, olive oil and truffles are REALLY good! And packed REALLY well so they don't leak all over the luggage rack when you get to Chicago! Liz will have to store them all in her garage until you move there in September.
