So lovely in fact that there are many "naturist" camps ....(nudist colonies!) it's a shame I couldn't convince Jensen to have lunch at one... (haha its not like everyone you went to high school with is going to be there like some worst nightmare... which we laughed about quite a lot) but still was not convinced. Maybe Next time.
We started the day at the nice campsite on krk where we slept on the banks of the Adriatic (so pretty! See pic. Also thanks for the new sleeping bag , mom and dad! Now I just need a sleeping pad. Hint hint)
We woke up early, as is always the case when you are camping, and we headed to krk town for two cafe lattes and several rounds of German whist while we waited for the stores to open.
We found a great market and bought half a wheel of sheep cheese and a load of fresh bread--- we ate all of this throughout the day... So much cheese!
In baska we went for a hike in the mountains overlooking the town and the beautiful Adriatic coast. You could see Rab island and several others. The view was spectacular and the pine trees smelled amazing in the summer heat.
Then we cooled off in the sea for a bit before headed out which felt amazing.
We just pulled into the little apartment we are staying at tonight and it is amazing! We found it online about two hours ago while getting dinner in a little town we drove through on the coast (see pic of the fish we split!). We are right around the famous plitvice national park area that we are hikng in tomorrow (very famous croatian waterfalls!).
The Sides of the roads here are riddled with signs for rooms/sobe/zimmer/camere
And little stands selling honey, wheels of cheese and adorable little jars of all flavors of jam. After driving for a little over an hour we found the one that we called ahead to and pulled in. The woman who lives here called her daughter over (who is so cute!--in the second grade and speaks great English) to translate for us and she gave us a little tour of the room which is actually the whole bottom floor of their house with kitchen and living room and bathroom all for only 180 kuna!!! Then she came down and offered us two types of brandy/schnapps that she makes herself and left a bottle for us. One is fruity, sweet, and dark red maybe cherry or something, and the other is clear and strong but tastes kind of flowery and peary-like. They are both VERY strong! We are in for a fabulous night. She left the latter Bottle and McCall is now pouring herself excessive amounts haha. This place is amazing and only $15 per person which, considering that I paid $9 for the camp site last night where I had to curl up uncomfortably in the bavkseat of the car (while McCall stretched out in the grass on the beautiful banks of the Adriatic in her sleeping bag--- looks like Jensen should have listened to McCall and brought one too!!) and $20 for the hostel we strayed at in Zagreb, this a big improvement.
Ps. Jensen and I will be making homemade brandy in MT this summer. Come by for some around mid August.

Check out the face on that fish!
ReplyDeleteThink how good it would taste with olive oil ice cream and truffles!
I'm so glad you went to Baska! I'd been looking at photos of it and dreaming! Looked like a place to spend at least three days. And I love that you checked out the cemetery.
