Started the day off early again with cappuccinos at Hemminways bar, then walked to the rental car agency where we were presented with a brand new VW golf. Don't worry parents, we paid extra for the full insurance so we're basically indestructible (or at least wont be charged for any destruction haha). It also get great gas mileage, but everyone here drives recklessly fast (except for me of course).
Drove off to Varazdin, the original capital city in medieval times. The drive was beautiful! Looks a lot like tuscany--red tiled roofs on white stucco houses against rolling green hills littered with bright red-orange poppies. Lots of little farms and cute cobble stone villages. There was a cool fort and a draw bridge in varazdin, and the town was adorable and old and cozy. McCall ordered a Bambus (redwine and pepsi--it's a thing here apparently, but unsurprisingly not very delicious, just weird and sweet) when we holed up under an awning of a cafe during a freak rain storm that lasted about 20 minutes in between glorious bouts of sunshine.
It took us ages to get to samobor, a little town outside of Zagreb since every onramp seems to be under construction. So we had to take the "scenic route".
Tucked into some croatian woman's spare bedroom right now since the hostel was full and ready to conk out.
maybe up early for a run.
Miss you all-- especially the bfs;).
Ps. We are speaking awesome Croatian these days. Very similar to Russian
